The Faculty

The main objective of the Faculty of Chemistry is to provide society with good graduates in Chemistry and Biochemistry. A faithful reflection of its environment, the Faculty responds to a clear need, as it is located in the middle of what will soon be the largest petrochemical and industrial belt in southern Europe.

Together with the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts of the Rovira i Virgili University, the Faculty of Chemistry was one of the first university institutions to be set up in Tarragona and has been active since 1971.

Since then, and after a lot of hard work, it has become well recognised by industry for its academic quality and the standards of its graduates.

The constant evolution of the demands of society means that we are constantly adapting to future needs. Our courses provide graduates with a capacity for leadership, responsibility, an ability to work, team spirit, communication skills, adaptability to changing environments, an ability to learn, and motivation skills.

The Faculty of Chemistry offers degrees in Chemistry, and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, with 80 and 40 places available, respectively. Since 2014-2015 the Faculty also offers the double degree in Biotechnology and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, with 10 places available. And since 2003-2004, the Faculty also teaches a University Specific Degree in the Fundamentals of Chemistry.

The Faculty of Chemistry also teaches master’s and doctoral courses. The official master's degrees offered are: Synthesis, Catalysis and Molecular Design (30 places), Nutrition and Metabolism (60 places), Applied Chromatographic Techniques (25 places).
