Degree in Chemistry

Chemistry is fundamental to technological innovation and human progress. Understanding the composition and properties of matter and the mechanisms involved in its transformation through chemical reactions requires a capacity of analysis and deduction as well as creativity.

We offer a dynamical and updated program based on theoretical an practical work delivered in English, recognized with the accreditation quality seal of EXCELLENT by the Agency for the Quality assurance of the Catalan University System. Additionally, URV is the best university to study the Bachelor in Chemistry in Spain, according to the U-ranking of Spanish universities 2017. Teaching is based on a personalized follow up and tutoring thanks to our low student-to-teacher ratio. The program will provide you with a firm theoretical basis of chemistry, together with the necessary practical application and laboratory work. The program will allow you to get skilled in teamwork, written and oral communication proficiency and critical thinking through discussions and complex problem solving. At the end of the degree, you can choose among a set of eligible courses to adapt it to your desired profile.

Our faculty has a strategic location, nearby the most important petrochemical pole in Southern Europe. Also, there is an important cluster of food, cosmetics and water treatment companies in the area. DOW Chemical has chosen the URV as one of the 8 strategic universities in Europe, Africa, and Middle East, among 8000 universities in the field of Chemistry.

Our students have the opportunity to take courses not only in other European universities thanks to the Erasmus exchange program, but in other institutions around the world as well. In the quest for the best training, our students do compulsory stays in chemistry-related companies such as DOW, BASF, Clariant and Repsol before getting their diploma. The program also instils values of respect towards environment and society.

The URV, together with the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) and the Catalan Centre for Chemical Technology (CTQC), are included in the Campus of International Excellence Southern Catalonia, an international benchmark in knowledge, research, and competitiveness within the areas of chemistry and energy. Our professors are highly active in research, a fact that the students can make the most of.

Tarragona is a very safe city, located 30 minutes away to Barcelona and 2.5 hours to Madrid using the high-speed train, with a mild climate throughout the year. It has a 15-kilometre coastline called “Golden Coast” with mild climate along the year. The cost of living in Tarragona is much lower than in London or New York.
